Loughnane takes the Constitution Hill ride at Kempton

Billy Loughnane has been booked to ride Constitution Hill for the first time in Saturday’s Group 3 William Hill September Stakes at Kempton, over the course and distance of the nine-year-old’s novice win in March. Nicky Henderson’s former hurdler is unbeaten in two starts on the Flat, ridden by Oisin Murphy at Southwell in February and by Ryan Moore in March (Thoroughbred Daily News).
The race has drawn two horses being aimed at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Owen Burrows has named the mile and a half at Kempton as the place to test Gethin, who has not run since finishing fifth in the Coral-Eclipse in July. George Scott sends Coronation Cup winner Bay City Roller, saying he did not want to run on good ground in Paris (Racing Post).

Things to know today

1 Silent Beauty won the Listed Ripon Champion Two Year Old Trophy over six furlongs on Monday by three lengths, David Egan riding for Kevin Philippart de Foy. The Night Of Thunder filly, bought by Amo Racing for one million euros at the Goffs Orby sale, was made a TDN Rising Star on her debut in May (Breednet, Thoroughbred Daily News)
2 Big Mojo goes for a second Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday, a repeat last achieved by Be Friendly in 1966 and 1967. Mick Appleby said there is nothing in the race you would look at and say his horse cannot beat it, and that the sprinter is in as good form now as he was last year, having won a Group 3 at the Curragh on his most recent start (Racing Post)
3 Ombudsman will go where the ground suits after finishing fourth in the Juddmonte International at York. Thady Gosden said the four-time Group 1 winner was not in love with the ground there and that they will go where it is suitable for him, with Champion Stakes options in Ireland and Britain and the Breeders’ Cup Turf all under consideration for the Godolphin horse (Racing Post)
4 Sir Mark Prescott sends Tiffany to the Kentucky Turf Cup at Kentucky Downs on Saturday. The trainer said that now she has won a Group 1 you can have a fling, and that her win in the Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten means you can be a lot braver. She races for Elite Racing and is due to be offered at Tattersalls in December once the American trip is behind her (Racing Post)
5 Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has named the European horses going to Ed Crisford in Dubai this winter, among them Dubai World Cup third Meydaan, the Roger Varian pair Sallaal and Raammee, and Morshdi, who won the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket for William Haggas. Crisford hopes to start at his new eighty box base at Jebel Ali by the end of October, aiming at the Meydan carnival (Racing Post)
6 Lauren Frost saddled her first two-year-old winner at Yarmouth on Sunday, Capitano Josepi taking a seven furlong novice on debut by a head from the William Haggas-trained Extragalactic under Jack Mitchell. Frost is 21, joined her father Kevin on a joint licence in May, and was at home running the Averham Park yard while her parents were at the meeting (Racing Post)
7 Trippi has died at 29. The End Sweep horse won the Grade 1 Vosburgh for Todd Pletcher and Dogwood Stable, stood at Ocala Stud in Florida, then moved to Drakenstein Stud in South Africa in 2009, where he became champion sire in 2015/16 and got the Group 1 winners Jet Dark and Charles Dickens. His daughter Miss Macy Sue is the dam of the stallions Liam’s Map and Not This Time (Thoroughbred Daily News)
8 Banbridge won on his Flat debut at Gowran Park on Tuesday at the age of ten, the King George winner taking a maiden over a mile and six furlongs for Joseph O’Brien from Ballybawn Belter and Antrim Coast. On the same card Curracloe, a Baaeed filly owned by Qatar Racing, won a seven furlong two-year-old maiden by three and a quarter lengths in 1:28.56 for Johnny Murtagh and Ben Coen, and became the first TDN Rising Star by her sire (irishracing.com, Racing Post, Thoroughbred Daily News)
Eight items against a cap of fifteen. Monday was a bank holiday in Britain and Ireland with one Listed race on the programme, so most of what follows is forward business rather than results. Item eight was added on Tuesday evening, after racing at Gowran Park. Nothing has been added to make up a number.

No Asia box today. The only fresh Hong Kong story was a second reading of Ka Ying Rising’s Sunday barrier trial, which this edition carried yesterday.

Markets overnight

· FTSE 100 10,824.26, up 0.29 per cent, the Friday 28 August close (Yahoo Finance)

· Bitcoin 77,593.60 dollars, down 0.14 per cent, the completed Monday 31 August session (Investing.com)
Every figure above is linked to the page it was read from. The DAX, the CAC 40, the euro and Brent are Monday 31 August closes, taken from dated rows. The FTSE 100 is the Friday 28 August close because the London Stock Exchange was shut on Monday for the Late Summer Bank Holiday, so no newer London close exists. Bitcoin trades around the clock and carries its last completed daily session. Two figures are missing. Gold is omitted because neither source consulted had posted a Monday settlement for the December contract, offering only a live quote. Sterling against the dollar is omitted for the same reason. Neither has been estimated or carried over from Monday’s edition.
