The Aga Khan Studs took three of the four Arc trials at ParisLongchamp. Erdenali, a three-year-old colt by Caravaggio, won the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over 1,600 metres in 1:33.01, beating Ten Bob Tony by a length and a quarter, with Gstaad three lengths back in third and Opera Ballo fourth. Mickael Barzalona rode him for Francis-Henri Graffard, and the same pair took the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel with Varandir, a length and a quarter clear of Alam with Pearled Majesty third, Benvenuto Cellini fifth and Zaraki seventh, and the Group 2 Qatar Prix Foy with Daryz, who beat Bay City Roller by a length and three quarters with Uthred third. The Group 1 Qatar Prix Vermeille went to Friendly Soul, who made all under James Doyle for John and Thady Gosden to hold Pink Panthera by three quarters of a length, with Sunly a neck away third. Saddadd won the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden at Baden-Baden, the 156th running, over 2,400 metres for 300,000 euros with 165,000 euros to the winner, in 2:27.66. Parachutiste was second, Bright Light third and Giavellotto, trained by Marco Botti, fourth of the seven runners left after Lordano was declared a non-starter on the morning of the race. The four-year-old Saddadd is the first Group 1 winner for his sire Pinatubo and won for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, Roger Varian and Jack Mitchell. Almeraq came clear in Saturday’s Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock, winning the 400,000 pound sprint by four and a quarter lengths from Paborus with Big Mojo a further four and three-quarter lengths back in third, on soft ground, for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. Marquand said the ground had let the four-year-old down at Newmarket, that the plan was to ride him conservatively and that he stepped up so easily. Asgard’s Captain beat Claymore by a short head in the Kincsem Dij at Kincsem Park in Budapest, the domestic Group 1 over 2,400 metres worth 40 million forint, about 110,500 euros. Marco Ghiani rode the winner for Dylan Cunha, having also beaten Claymore in the Shergar Cup Challenge on 8 August. Shares in Ace Impact and The Grey Gatsby have been added to the AKTEM online stallion sale, along with Van Beethoven, Taj Mahal, Golden Horde, Dave, Bande and the stallion prospect Borna. Ace Impact, unbeaten winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Prix du Jockey Club, stands at Haras de Beaumont and has covered more than 200 black type mares in his first two seasons, his progeny making up to 220,000 euros at auction. American Belle, a half-sister to the four time Group 1 winner Ombudsman, has been entered for the Tattersalls Online September Sale on 15 and 16 September. The six-year-old Starspangledbanner mare, out of Syndicate, won twice over seven furlongs and is offered in foal to Lead Artist by Mount Farm Stud on behalf of BBP Racing.
