Pellitory gives O’Meara a third Ayr Gold Cup
Pellitory won the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday by half a length from Tuco Salamanca, with Flash Harry third and Fine Interview fourth. The Class 2 heritage handicap over six furlongs was run on heavy ground, drew 24 runners and was worth 92,772 pounds to the winner. David O’Meara trains the four year old for Evan Sutherland, and Daniel Tudhope rode him from stall 16 (Racing Post).
Tudhope crossed from his central draw to join the larger far side group, which he said looked like the place to be, and put the win down to a horse campaigned over seven furlongs outstaying the field. It is a third win in the race for O’Meara after Louis The Pious and Summerghand, a second for Sutherland after Highland Colori in 2013, and a second for Tudhope, who won on Summerghand (Sporting Life).
