Spirited Gesture meets the Rockfel at Newmarket

The Group 2 Betway Rockfel, for fillies over seven furlongs, is the feature of day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. Spirited Gesture, unbeaten in two starts for John and Thady Gosden, is a Kingman filly owned by Juddmonte and a sister to Coppice and Calyx. She meets Sugar Yes Please, winner of the Group 3 Sweet Solera on the July Course, and Light Of Dawn, who took the Prestige at Goodwood (Racing Post, Express and Star)
Barry Mahon of Juddmonte called her a beautiful filly with a great pedigree whose family the Gosdens know well. The card also carries the Group 2 Joel Stakes over a mile, in which Charlie Appleby runs Talk Of New York, and the Group 3 Princess Royal over a mile and a half. Appleby said the horse comes here in great order and that the make up of the race will suit him (Thoroughbred Daily News)

Things to know today

1 Fuel The Jet won the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes, registered as the Somerville Tattersall, by three quarters of a length at Newmarket on Thursday, beating Notable Dream in 1:24.24 for Tom Clover and Neil Callan. Clover said they were checking the entries 15 minutes before closing and there were only four in it. Gregory took the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl on the same card by eleven lengths under James Doyle for John and Thady Gosden, who hold entries for him in the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day and the Prix Royal-Oak (Thoroughbred Daily News, Express and Star)
2 Great Barrier Reef was absent when seven were declared for Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes, with Aidan O’Brien instead running Marco Polo and Confucius. Six stand their ground in the Group 1 Cheveley Park. Folsom Blues also misses the Middle Park, and Kieran Lalor of Al Shira’aa Racing said the Dewhurst would be the main goal, with the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere a back-up plan if needed (Sporting Life, Thoroughbred Daily News)
3 Twenty were declared for the Goffs Million at the Curragh tomorrow, run over seven furlongs for one million euro. Six are trained in Britain: Blessed Voyager for Ralph Beckett, Waasil for Karl Burke, Bayside View for Michael Bell, Dorigo for Kevin Ryan, Love Is for Richard Hughes and Nobelos for Charlie Hills (The Curragh)
4 Horse Racing Ireland published its 2027 fixture list, with 396 racing dates, six more than this year. The new all weather track at Tipperary, built with a government approved 34 million euro loan, takes nine fixtures, the first of them on 23 October 2027. The Dublin Racing Festival falls on 30 and 31 January at Leopardstown and Good Friday racing returns to the Curragh on 26 March (The Irish Times)
5 Part two of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale grossed 2,039,100 euro, up nine per cent on last year, at a clearance rate of 85 per cent, taking the combined aggregate for both sections past 20 million euro. A Lope De Vega colt led the session at 52,000 euro, bought by Valfredo Valiani from the Castlebridge Consignment (Tattersalls Ireland)
6 Joseph O’Brien has yet to commit Thundering On to the Arc. The Oaks winner, who took the Group 2 Blandford at the Curragh, could instead go for the Prix de l’Opera or wait for British Champions Weekend at Ascot a week later. O’Brien said she is a stayer that has speed, who relaxes very well and has a turn of foot, and that those are the attributes that would enable her to compete in the Arc (France Galop)
7 Two half shares in Galiway have been added to Aktem’s online stallion sale, which is held today. The son of Galileo stands at Haras de Colleville and has sired the Group 1 winners Sealiway and Sunway on the Flat, and the top level jumps winners Gala Marceau and Vauban (Racing Post)
