Final Orders makes it two in a row for Cromwell at Pardubice
Final Orders won the 136th Velka pardubicka at Pardubice on Sunday, holding the home trained Godfrey in a close finish over 6,900 metres and 31 obstacles. Keith Donoghue rode the ten-year-old Irish bred gelding, as he did last year’s winner, and the winning connections took two million koruna from a purse of five million (Ceske noviny)
Gavin Cromwell trains the winner, and the win is back to back for the yard in the Czech showpiece after Stumptown took it in 2025. Cromwell said it had looked as though his horse would win well, but that the second was very tough and gave him a good battle. He added that Final Orders was probably the smallest horse in the race and that he certainly has a big heart (At The Races)

Things to know today

Aidan O’Brien may add Scandinavia to his Ascot team, saying there is a small chance the stayer runs in the Qatar Racing Long Distance Cup, that he came out of the Prix du Cadran very well and is very fresh, and that the ground is the concern. Queenstown is set to stay in the same race, Minnie Hauk and Amelia Earhart are expected in the Fillies and Mares Stakes, Constitution River may drop back to a mile for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Gstaad could step up for the Champion Stakes. Jan Brueghel is out for the rest of the year after an infection in a joint and an operation. O’Brien is chasing a ninth British trainers’ title, trails Andrew Balding and said it is always the horses first (irishracing.com) |

Roger Varian has finished for the season with Saddadd, the four-year-old son of Pinatubo who won the 156th Grosser Preis von Baden and then came home fifteenth of sixteen in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, about six and a half lengths behind Daryz. Varian said the Arc was not run to suit, that seven lengths separating the field is not his kind of gig and that he did not disgrace himself. The horse will not go back to Germany this year, can only improve with age, and Ray Dawson, who rode him at ParisLongchamp, believes he would handle a mile and six furlongs (Sporting Life) |

Senorita Bonita has had a full examination and blood tests after finishing fifth of six in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket, the first poor run of her career, and nothing obvious has come to light. Chris Wall, racing manager for the owners Victorious Forever, said that is frustrating on one hand and good news on the other, and that he thinks she simply had an off day. The Simon and Ed Crisford filly, who cost 900,000 guineas at the Craven Breeze-Up and has won three of her five starts, will take a winter break and is more likely to be aimed at the Commonwealth Cup than the 2000 Guineas (irishracing.com) |

Abbotsford took the 100,000 euro Colm White Bookmaker Beggar’s End Handicap over two miles at Naas on Sunday by two lengths and a neck from Madbadanddangerous, with Sir Jeremy third. Colin Keane rode the lightly raced Frankel three-year-old for Dermot Weld, who said he would speak to Barry Mahon and the family and that the options are open. Earlier on the card Snapretend won the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Bluebell Stakes by half a length from Beset, Jamie Powell riding for Joseph O’Brien and saying the filly loves the slow ground and could go again before the year is out (irishracing.com) |

Mark Walsh will ride as first choice for Sean and Bernardine Mulryan this season, a move revealed at Cork on Sunday after he won the Co-Op Superstores three-year-old maiden hurdle on Atomic City by half a length from Step By Step, who blundered at the last, with Divine Believer ten lengths away in third. The Ghaiyyath gelding is trained by Joseph O’Brien, and Walsh said he is not a slow horse and made up ground very easily, and that the instruction had been to walk him out in last and get him relaxed (irishracing.com) |

Ralph Beckett is pointing Pride Of Arras at the Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin on 13 December. The colt returned to form in the Group 3 William Hill September Stakes at Kempton but was well beaten in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park, a run Beckett put down to the horse having been in the United States too long (Sporting Life) |

Caldwell Potter is pleasing Paul Nicholls at Ditcheat, and the Betfair Chase at Haydock on 21 November appears to be the eight-year-old’s return. He missed all of last season through injury and has not run since winning the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree in April 2025, going back into work in mid-July. Nicholls, who trains him for an ownership group that includes Sir Alex Ferguson, said all the horse’s problems are behind him and that there is no hurry, with the Cotswold Chase, the Gold Cup and Aintree the spring aims if he stays at three miles (irishracing.com) |

Rachel King rode the Sword Of State colt at 57 kilograms for Bjorn Baker. Damian Lane has passed the first stage of the Japan Racing Association examination for a full time licence, having sat the paper in Japan and been notified in writing. A final interview in Japanese follows in January, and he is understood to be able to ride from 1 March 2027 if he is approved. Only Christophe Lemaire and Mirco Demuro have held the licence, both since 2015.
