Ready2Race turnover breaks $30 million at Riverside

The Inglis Ready2Race Sale grossed $30,721,000 at Riverside on Thursday, a record for the auction, from a catalogue enlarged to 321 lots. The average of $169,729 and the median of $120,000 were sale records as well, and eight two-year-olds made $500,000 or more, one more than last year. “To have gotten through $30 million in turnover is pretty fantastic,” said Sebastian Hutch, the Inglis bloodstock chief executive (ANZ Bloodstock News, The Straight)
Three colts shared top billing at $600,000. Lot 83, an Anamoe colt from Woburn Farm, went to MyRacehorse with the Waterhouse Bott stable, Belmont Bloodstock and Kestrel Thoroughbreds. Lot 116, a Toronado colt consigned by Matt Vella, went to Hermitage Thoroughbreds, the leading buyer at five lots for $2.175 million. Lot 314, a Wild Ruler colt from Woodlow Equine, went to Hong Kong’s Lucky Owners. Seventeen of Hong Kong’s 23 trainers attended (The Straight, ANZ Bloodstock News)

Things to know today

1 Pride Of Jenni is out of the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. Her owner Tony Ottobre said “it is a slight leg infection, but I’m so glad we found it before she left for Sydney,” and that she is on antibiotics and a topical cream and could work again on Monday. The Ciaron Maher mare, who resumed with a win in the Feehan Stakes, now goes to the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes over 1600 metres at Flemington on 31 October (Betsy, The Straight)
2 Entain’s Australian online net gaming revenue grew 1 per cent in the three months to 30 September, down from 13 per cent across the first half of 2026, which the company put down to a tougher comparison with the second half of 2025. Group net gaming revenue rose 2 per cent and online 3 per cent, with Brazil down 36 per cent before that government banned online gambling on 25 September. Chief executive Stella David said the underlying momentum “supports our confidence in reiterating FY26 guidance” (The Straight)
3 Brisbane Racing Club returned Richard Morrison as chairman, Terry Svenson as vice chairman and Jennifer Creaton as a director at its annual meeting at Eagle Farm on Wednesday, with Michael Rapkins and Cheryl Ahchee the unsuccessful candidates from five nominations. Group revenue was $89.7 million against $89.1 million, and total comprehensive profit $4,647,040 against $2,185,361. The Queensland Government has committed an initial $25 million from the Racing Infrastructure Fund towards replacing the John Power Stand, which was built in 1957 (The Straight)
4 The Avondale Jockey Club has filed a High Court challenge to New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing’s decision to declare Auckland racecourse a surplus venue, and to its decision not to formalise the club’s 2026/27 race dates, with TAB New Zealand also a party. The club owns 35 hectares, leases the infield grounds to Auckland Council and hosts Sunday markets drawing about 20,000 people a week. Standing president Andrew Skinner said that ambition “needs to be tested through sound evidence and engagement,” while NZTR said it was “disappointed the club has chosen to take this approach.” No hearing has concluded (The Straight)
5 Jaarffi returns in the Group 3 Sweynesse Stakes over 1215 metres at Ellerslie on Saturday, a race moved from Rotorua after that meeting was abandoned when Sovrana slipped past the post. Lance Noble trains the seven-year-old Iffraaj mare, who races in Cambridge Stud colours and has three wins and three placings from ten starts at Ellerslie, among them the Group 1 Otaki Maori Weight for Age Classic. She was fourth in the Group 1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes on 7 March (NZ Racing News)
6 One Bold Cat carries topweight of 62 kilograms in the $50,000 Waverley Cup over 2200 metres on Sunday. The eight-year-old has won nine races to Group 1 level for Robbie Patterson and was fifth under 59 kilograms in the Group 3 Metric Mile at Trentham last month, after which Patterson said he was “very happy with that performance, especially under the weight.” The trainer would rather use Craig Grylls than take a one kilogram claim, and the horse is nominated for the Group 3 New Zealand Cup at Riccarton (NZ Racing News)
7 Singletary gets blinkers and a tongue tie and drops back to 1200 metres at Otaki on Saturday. The Satono Aladdin three-year-old was third in the Wanganui Guineas but below par in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas, which his trainer Andrew Campbell put down to a hard early pace and poor draws. Campbell said it is “D-Day for him on Saturday,” with the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas at Riccarton next month the prize (NZ Racing News)

Breeding concentrates as the 2027 foal crop is cut again

The Jockey Club projects a North American foal crop of 16,500 in 2027, down 2.9 per cent on the 2026 estimate of 17,000, from 23,932 mares covered by 670 stallions through 1 October. Reporting stallions fell 9.2 per cent year on year while mares bred fell 3 per cent, so the average book grew from 33.4 to 35.7, and 519 of the 670 stallions covered fewer than 50 mares. Kentucky’s 187 stallions took 69.7 per cent of all coverings, up from 66.4 per cent, while mares bred elsewhere fell 12.5 per cent to 7,255. Australian Stud Book figures show the same shape, with 11,283 live foals in 2025, down 4.84 per cent, and active stallions down from 411 to 349 (The Straight)
