Banishing repeats at Charles Town, and the Travers is here

Banishing built his run wide on the backstretch and won Friday night’s Grade 2 Charles Town Classic by two and a quarter lengths, nine furlongs in 1:53.26 for a purse of one million dollars (Horse Racing Nation, Paulick Report). Tyler Gaffalione rode the five-year-old Ghostzapper gelding for trainer and co-owner David Jacobson and co-owner Lawrence Roman (Horse Racing Nation). Willy D’s was second and Gould’s Gold third. Skippylongstocking, who won the race in 2023 and 2024 and was going for a third, finished last of eight and thirty nine and a quarter lengths behind under Jose Ortiz (Paulick Report). A scan puts Romantic Warrior back under review

Screening has found a change in one of Romantic Warrior’s joints, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club said the finding requires further detailed assessment by its veterinary team, with more information to follow (South China Morning Post, The Standard). The eight-year-old has been restricted to swimming and has not resumed fast work (The Standard). A screening in May 2025 found changes in his left fore fetlock and led to surgery in which a screw was inserted; there is no indication so far that the new finding involves the same joint (South China Morning Post). He won all six of his Hong Kong starts last season, including a fourth consecutive Hong Kong Cup, and has earned a world record 288.7 million Hong Kong dollars (The Standard). The Hong Kong Cup is on 13 December. No diagnosis, treatment plan or timeline has been announced.
