Cheveley Park retires Estrange after bone bruising
Cheveley Park Stud has retired Estrange, the five-year-old grey who won the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in June, after bone bruising sustained in her most recent start (The Irish Field). An autumn campaign had been envisaged, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe among the possibilities, but the stud said time was running out to have her fully fit and that Patricia Thompson felt that, having won her Group 1, it was time for her to retire to the paddocks (The Irish Field). Trained throughout by David O’Meara, she won six of her nine starts, taking the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks and back to back runnings of the Group 3 Lester Piggott Stakes, and was second to Minnie Hauk in last season’s Yorkshire Oaks (Thoroughbred Daily News). Mating plans have not been settled.

Delhi Race Club is flattened
Bulldozers flattened several of the Delhi Race Club’s historic structures, among them the old stables, the bookmakers ring and the winning post, after the Indian government issued an eviction order on 11 August under the public premises law and a local court declined to halt it.
